Tree Dressing took place on 28th November 2010
Around 30 people of all ages came on this very cold day, to contribute decorations to one of the special trees in the park.
Background information: Tree Dressing Day encourages the celebration of trees. It brings together the ideas and traditions from many different cultures from all around the world. In Ireland for example, hawthorns are often covered with ‘wish rags’ in the hope of bringing good luck, love and happiness. In Scotland trees standing beside certain wells are known as ‘clootie trees’ and are hung with strips of cloth by locals and travellers. In parts of Hindu India, banyan and pipal trees may be painted with vermilion and turmeric.
